Alcoholic Beverages and Health Balance

It’s summer. Summer means hot weather, barbecues, picnics in the park, days at the beach, and for many people, opportunities for outdoor drinking. Unfortunately, alcoholic beverages don’t usually aid goals like, “lose 10 pounds,” or “I totally want to see my abs, bro.” Cutting out alcohol entirely will go a LONG way for weight loss, but it’s no fun. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than hanging out by the pool with your friends and some cocktails. So, where do you find the balance?

Here’s a cocktail that’s relatively low calorie. It has only 113 calories, which is much lower than most beers or traditional summer cocktails. Enjoyed in moderation, a cocktail hour shouldn’t have to derail a whole day of hard work.

Cucumber Caipiranha

3 slices cucumber
1 slice lime
1/2 tsp agave syrup
1.5 oz white rum
Cucumber HINT water, to taste
Club soda, to taste

1. In a glass, thoroughly muddle lime wedges, cucumber slices, and agave syrup.

2. Fill glass with ice and pour in rum. Top with equal parts club soda and HINT water.

3. Mix by pouring into another glass and then back into your drinking glass. Consume.
